Dr. Sambasivamoorthy Sivayokan is a board-certified specialist in psychiatry who has been working in northern Sri Lanka for the past 30 years in the fields of mental health and psychiatry. During this period, he shouldered his professional responsibilities amidst the war, tsunami, and poor resource-setting contexts. He developed a range of services for the needy population in collaboration with governmental and non-governmental organisations and showcased such unique models to the country.

Dr. Sivayokan is a graduate of the Jaffna Medical Faculty and a past president of the Jaffna Medical Association. He is currently the chair professor of the Department of Psychiatry at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Jaffna.
