What does “Caring for carers” mean to you?
– We move from treatments that ‘fix’ the brain of individuals to care that aims to develop resilience in meaningful environments. Caring for carers is the crucial need when decontextualising mental health.
Prof. Dr. Ph. A. E. G. (Philippe) Delespaul is emeritus professor of Innovations in Mental Health Care at the Maastricht University (faculty of Health, Medicine and Life Sciences). He is a clinical psychologist and advises partners and stakeholders on innovative care. He is in the board of Phrenos, the CCAF, (F)ACT-Nederland, GIP-Benelux, Hersteltalent and the Stichting Nieuwe GGZ. He developed the PsyMate™ to assess people in their daily life. He co-initiated the Dutch New Mental Health Movement and Ecosystems for Mental Health (GEM). He is an advocate for human rights and the empowerment of users.
