The biggest and sudden changes in our treatment of eating disorders came during the COVID-19 quarantine period. Suddenly we had to reorganise the whole unit. We started working on-line, created literature and guidelines to be available on-line, and created a lot of lectures for posting on YouTube. Through research in the mean time we realised that the number of eating disorder patients doubled if not tripled during quarantine. However, personal therapy and the relationship between therapist and patient remained the main factor bringing about change. In other words, ego and affect regulation through a trusted person (the therapist), being really seen as a human being, finding a new purpose in life outside the eating disorder – these remained the main factors that brought about change in behaviour.
